A pair of early 19th century Portuguese silver four-light candelabra

maker's mark 'SRJ' to base, maker's mark 'VAD' to soldered nozzles, Lisbon 1816-1828
Both stems of knopped baluster form, fluted and waisted with additional chased C-scroll decoration, a soldered drip pan atop each main stem, four removable branches emerging, the central vertical branch surrounded by a trio of matching arms, each terminating in a removable sconce and pierced detachable drip-pan, all elements embellished with repeating scrolling leaves and embossed decoration, both on circular stepped shaped bases with a gadrooned edge and shell motifs in high relief, height 58cm, weight 182oz.
