Footnotes

Louis Kuppenheim, founded in 1857, became a renowned firm of gold and silver box manufacturers and smallworkers in the popular jewellery town of Pforzheim, Germany. They were famed for their high quality craftmanship and enamelling, and in the early 20th century they reached their zenith, employing around 200 factory workers, opening a Paris store and running a thriving export business. However, as the Kuppenheim's were of Jewish extraction, their business declined after 1933 and Nazi persecution saw to the liquidation of the business in 1939.
