A Ross Compound Monocular Microscope, English, Circa 1870,

signed ROSS LONDON, numbered 1990, the number 1 stand with focusing by rack-and-pinion, and by calibrated screw and lever, mechanical rotating stage and substage, with plano-concave mirror below, in mahogany case with double doors, fitted with three oculars, wheel of stops, Ross 1/4, 1/2 and 1-inch objectives,
the microscope 21in (53cm) high
13in x 10in x 11 1/4in (33cm x 25.5cm x 28.5cm) cased

Footnotes

Later Ross microscope designs received further improvements by Andrew Ross' son Thomas, who reduced the overall weight of the model. Compound microscopes like the present example were sold by the family firm in monocular and binocular versions.
