No. 14422, the base signed W.WATSON & SONS LTD., 313 HIGH HOLBORN, LONDON, focusing by rack-and-pinion and thumbwheel-lever, with mechanical stage and sub-stage, plano-convex magnifier on adjustable stand and tripod base, the steady engraved R.D.C 27336, the case drawer with ivory handle, together with six objectives, four oculars, condenser, stage forceps and livebox, in fitted mahogany case,
the microscope 17 3/4in (45cm) high
15 3/4in x 11 1/4in x 9 3/4in (40cm x 28.5cm x 25cm) cased

Footnotes

The engraving R.D.C. 27336 refers to the serial number of the first owner of the No. 1 van Heurck microscope. The original model was ordered by Dr. Henri Van Heurck, and advertised by Watson & Sons as 'the most completely-fitted model which we make, and represents all that is most modern in microscope design and manufacture'.
