Footnotes

Station or 'scramble' bells like the present example would have been used on British airfields by the RAF during the Second World War. Ringing the bell would signal the threat of incoming enemy aircraft and to get planes into the air.

The Dates on Air Ministry bells relate to the commissioning date of the aerodrome that the bell is dedicated to.
