A pair of Derby vases, circa 1815

Of slender campana form, boldly painted all around in the manner of William 'Quaker' Pegg with garden flowers including iris, chrysanthemum, poppies, roses and striking variegated tulips, reserved on a very unusual pale blue ground, the square plinths, feet and lower sections with rich neoclassical gilding, 32.7cm high, crown, crossed batons and D marks in red (2)

The pale blue ground is most unusual on Derby porcelain. A similar background colour was used by William Billingsley at Worcester at around the same time.
