Footnotes

Provenance
Twinight Collection

A Pinxton mug with similar painting to that on the can is illustrated by N D Gent, The Patterns and Shapes of the Pinxton China Factory (1996), p.30, fig. 22 and a related cabaret service is shown at p.7. The can has a plain handle rather than the more usual 'kicked' form found on coffee cans forming part of services, the gilded interior confirming that it was intended very much as a cabinet piece.
