Six various European flasks

Late 16th century and later
Comprising an Italian triangular musketeer's powder-flask with leather-covered wooden body, the front applied with cuir-bouilli panel tooled with borders centred on a foliate cartouche, iron mounts, and sprung cut-off lever (worn and rusted overall); an East European powder-flask, probably Carpathian Basin, formed from a forked section of staghorn and engraved over the front with geometric designs, the back left natural (nozzle missing); a German powder-flask, the horn body engraved with figures and inscriptions over the front apparently reading in translation 'The most beautiful in the World' and 'A red line through the black field', and on the fluted back with a figure drumming the exposed buttocks of a woman and engraved 'My drum has got a hole in it but it still works', and with turned wooden nozzle; a Scandinavian powder-flask formed from a section of cow horn and incised with male and female figures, and inscriptions including the date '1760' in a heart above the initials 'HBH'; a horn priming-flask carved in low relief with figures, a peacock, and a hound pursuing a hare, the bone base carved in relief with foliage (worn and insect damaged); another powder-flask with pivoting brass nozzle of Boche type (base plug missing); together with an iron-mounted wooden priming-flask, the first 22.5cm, (7)
