TILGHMAN, WILLIAM. 1854-1924.

Document Signed ("Wm Tilghman"), partially printed and accomplished in manuscript, 1 p, oblong 8vo, Ford County, KS, April 8, 1886, attesting to his action as a witness in the case of W.T. Lane vs. the City of Dodge City, docketed on the verso with notations regarding expenses, leaf lightly thumbed, fading to scribe's ink. WITH: Tilghman receipt from Dodge City treasurer.

Tilghman served as City Marshal of Dodge City from 1884-1886, and as a deputy under both Bat Masterson and Charlie Bassett. However, he is most famous for capturing outlaw Bill Doolin in a bathhouse in Arkansas, becoming known along with Chris Madsen and Heck Thomas, as the "Three Guardsmen."
