SIGNED COPY OF COLE YOUNGER'S AUTOBIOGRAPHY.
YOUNGER, COLE. The Story of Cole Younger. Chicago: The Henneberry Company, 1903. 8vo (218 x 143 mm). Rebound in black cloth gilt with original printed wrappers bound in. Leaves toned significantly and brittle, a few leaves loose, generally fragile. Newspaper clippings to front and rear leaves.
Provenance: J.H. O'Berne (ownership inscription to preliminary blank); sold A&S Auctions, Waco, January 13, 2007.
WITH SIGNED CARDS OF COLE YOUNGER AND FRANK JAMES laid down to rear free endpaper. This printing of Cole Younger's autobiography was purchased by J.H. O'Berne at a showing of the 1903 Cole Young and Frank James Wild West Show. The book cost $.50, and for an extra dollar each, O'Berne collected the signatures of both Younger and James, which are on visiting cards housed in small envelopes laid down to the last leaf of the book. There are two spurious signatures of the outlaws on the portraits at the front of the book as well.
