Photograph Signed and Inscribed ("'Uncle Will' / W.F. Cody"), mammoth gelatin silver print portrait of Cody with saddle, hat and gun, 10 1/2 x 13 1/2 inches laid down to board, inscribed to his niece Josie Thurston at lower right corner, creasing to lower center, chip at lower left corner.
Provenance: the Mike Butler Collection of Western Photography, sold Cowan's Auctions, June 6, 2007.

According to a story on the Cody Night Rodeos from the Des Moines Register on August 7, 1949, this or a similar photograph inscribed to Josie Thurston hung in the Elephant Head Lodge in Cody, WY.
