DEADWOOD IN PICTURES.
1. McBRIDE, C.C., photographer. Deadwood looking north, on the B. & M. R.R.... Imperial albumen print photograph, 7 x 8 3/4 inches laid down to 8 x 10 inch board, c.1890, titled in negative, photographer's imprint to lower mount ("Lock & Peterson / Deadwood, S.D."), some toning to mount, corners bumped. A clear view of downtown Deadwood taken from the train tracks on the hills above.
Provenance: purchased from John Spellman, Austin, TX, April 14, 1993 (receipt present).
2. GRABILL, J.C.H., photographer. No. 1301. IN MARKET. Eight yoke of oxen haul five tons of hay to Deadwood. The largest load ever in market. Imperial albumen print photograph, 6 1/2 x 9 inches laid down to 6 3/4 x 9 1/2 inch board, 1888, titled in negative, photographer's imprint to left hand mount and verso ("J.C.H. Grabill ... Deadwood and Sturgis, Dakota Ter"), some toning and thumbing to mount.
Provenance purchased Austin, TX, 1995, vendor unrecorded.
