Footnotes
The Esso overalls were a key trend of the 1970s, and worn by the likes of Keith Moon, Eric Clapton and David Bowie (and their girlfriends), both on and off stage.
The original overalls were first sold by a small shop in Gramercy Park, New York, called Jenny Waterbags which was discovered and frequented by John Lennon & Yoko Ono, Bianca Jagger, Elton John and the likes. The owners heard about a man in Brazil who had been stuck with 1,000 Esso overalls and spotting a trend, they picked them up cheaply. One of the shop owners is quoted as saying he knew they had arrived when one day he looked up in his shop and saw no less than 20 customers all wearing the Esso overalls.
