Footnotes
Stephan Zick (1639-1715) was born in Nuremberg into a family of ivory carvers and it is thought it was he who originated these miniature anatomical models. These very rare demonstrational models were supposedly used in lecturing to medical students. The Wellcome Collection, London has an ivory standing anatomical model of a pregnant woman in the classical style.
