An ivory netsuke of a tigress and cub
School of Tomotada, Kyoto, late 18th century
The mother seated, her head turned to the right, her tail passing over her right flank, one forepaw resting protectively on the back of her recumbent offspring, the whole powerfully rendered in well-patinated and slightly worn ivory, the eye inlaid; inscribed in a rectangular reserve Tomotada. 5.2cm (2in) long.
