Two ivory netsuke
Edo period (1615-1868) to Meiji era (1868-1912), 19th century
The first a container in the form of a gourd, partially carved in sunken relief with a merchant carrying over his shoulder a bamboo cane suspended with tea whisks to sell, with a small dark wood stopper, inscribed Mitsuhiro with a seal Ohara, 4.1cm (1 5/8in) high; the second a peanut, its shell open to reveal a loose seed inside, the ivory partially stained, signed with a seal Kokusai, 4.6cm (1 13/16in) long. (2).
