Two ivory netsuke of demons on lotus leaves
Edo period (1615-1868) or Meiji era (1868-1912), 19th century
The first a demon and a priest kneeling on an upturned, partially bug-eaten lotus leaf, facing each other while hand-wrestling, signed Gyokuyo, 4.1cm (1 5/8in) long; the second two demons peering at a catfish through a tear on an upturned lotus leaf, one demon grasping the fishing line the catfish is caught on, unsigned, 5cm (2in) long. (2).
