Two ivory figure netsuke
Edo period (1615-1868) to Meiji era (1868-1912), 19th century
The first a snow-covered Moso, one of the Twenty-Four Filial Exemplars, leaning forward to tie up two bamboo shoots to take to his ailing mother in the depths of winter, unsigned, 3.8cm (1½in) long; the second Asahina Saburo crouching underneath an ox, looking out for his enemy, the ox's eyes double-inlaid, signed in an oval reserve Ranko, 3.2cm (1¼in) long. (2).
