Six various netsuke
Edo period (1615-1868) to Meiji era (1868-1912), 19th century
Five of ivory, the first a courtier holding a lantern over a boy's head, unsigned, 4cm (1 9/16in) long; the second a demon stealing Daikoku's mallet as he sleeps, signed Kyokusai, 5cm (2in) long; the third a fox spirit assisting famed swordsmith Munechika forge the sword 'Little Fox', signed Masanao, 4.4cm (1¾in) high; the fourth Raijin making a large drum with his son Raitaro, unsigned, 4cm (1 9/16in) long; the fifth an elderly couple with a tall mortar and pestle full of money, possibly signed Gyokushu, 4.6cm (1 13/16in) high; the sixth stag-antler of an Immortal wrapped in leaves and holding his beard, unsigned, 8cm (3 1/8in) high.
