Footnotes

A GILT COPPER ALLOY FIGURE OF VAJRABHAIRAVA
QING DYNASTY OR REPUBLIC PERIOD, 19TH/FIRST HALF OF 20TH CENTURY

The sculpture's relatively large scale, robust figural type, and broad lotus petals are indicative of bronzes produced under the Qing dynasty at Dolonnor, Inner Mongolia. Compare a Mongolian Vajrabhairava held in the Rubin Museum of Art (HAR 65552). Also compare the treatment of the base with a Dolonnor Avalokiteshvara sold Bonhams, New York, 17 March 2014, lot 27.

Provenance
Private European Collection assembled in the 1960s and 1970s
