Rare Cross-section Slice of Opalized Wood
Bonanza Opal Mine, Virgin Valley Formation, Virgin Valley Nevada
Found in 2005, this is a rare and exceptional slice of petrified wood with precious opal replacement of cellular structure and in-filling of natural cracks and grain. Polished on both sides and never requiring storage in water, this specimen is what opal hobbyists would term a "dry display piece". Weighing 44.9 grams and measuring 9 x 6 x 0.5 cm
