Yowah Nut Split-- "Lagoon"
Yowah, Queensland, Australia
Mined by David Darby, a miner featured on Discover Channel's Opal Hunters show this season. This unusual opal nodule, known in the mineral hobby as a "nut", was split open to reveal its inner beauty. Imagine the joy of the opal hunter who discovered it when he saw the large area of gem opal which formed inside the nodule. The colors are an iridescent blue-green, they appear to have a "flow" and they contrast dramatically with the surrounding brown ironstone. Total weight approximately 243 carats. Each half measuring approximately 38 x 27 x 12mm (2)
