CURTIS ON GOLD MINING.

CURTIS, EDWARD S. 1868-1952. The Lure of Gold. Typed Manuscript with Annotations, 28 pp, 4to, [Los Angeles, c.1950], pages toned, paper clip stain to p 1, light thumbing.
Provenance: Purchased by Dr. Billy Utley from Manford "Mag" Magnuson.

According to his biographer Timothy Egan, Curtis spent the summer and fall of 1950 working on a book-length project titled The Lure of Gold. This manuscript reads like an introductory chapter—or possibly a prospectus—that considers the history of gold in human cultures from Ancient Egypt through to the most recent Klondike Gold Rush and Curtis's own experiences mining for gold in California, Oregon and Alaska.
