A PAIR OF HELEN KELLER PORTRAITS BY CURTIS.

KELLER, HELEN. 1880-1968. Photograph Signed ("Helen Keller"), gelatin silver print portrait, 13.5 x 10.5 inches, seated portrait of Keller by Curtis, signed in the plate, inscribed "Cordially Yours Helen Keller / May 1925") at lower right. WITH: Photograph Signed and Inscribed ("Helen Keller" and "Annie Sullivan Macy"), gelatin silver print portrait of the two women holding hands, signed by both at lower center, script faded and traced over, mounting remnants on the verso.
Provenance: Purchased by Dr. Billy Utley from Manford "Mag" Magnuson.

In April of 1925 Helen Keller arrived in Los Angeles for a one-month stay to fundraise for the American Foundation for the Blind. According to the Los Angeles Times, Keller spent the month speaking at a series of teas and lectures held at various hotels and clubs around the city, which must have included the Biltmore Hotel, where the Curtis Studio encouraged her and her companion Annie Sullivan to pose.
