Purple Sapphire
Umba Valley, Tanzania
The Umba sapphire is a unique type of sapphire discovered in 1962 in the Gerevi Hills, north of the Umba River in the Umba Valley of Tanzania. Umba sapphires exhibit coloration not common to sapphires found in other parts of the world, and are recovered from the alluvial deposits of the Umba River. The present stone is an purple sapphire which has unenhanced color, in our opinion. It is distinguished by its excellent luster and clarity. Weighing approximately 1.68 carats and measuring 6.93 x 6.41 x 4.38mm
