Footnotes

RARE COMPLETE IN THE ORIGINAL PUBLISHER'S BINDING. This was published as the "first of a proposed series of drawing-room table volumes of photographic portraits of contemporary Hindus, Mohomedans, Paris, and Englishmen...", but no further volumes in the series appeared, although Sorabji Jehangir revived the format for his celebrated Princes and Chiefs of India (1903). Of the subjects depicted 32 were Indian, the remainder British.
