George Isham Parkyns visited America in the mid-1790s and travelled up the east coast. On his journey, he produced a number of engravings based on his sketches of various cities and landmarks. This culminated in 1799 with the publication of his Sketches of Select American Scenery.
A draft letter of recommendation, dated 13 May 1800, from Thomas Jefferson to George Isham Parkyns is held in the US National Archives.
