Footnotes

勞力士,「Submariner」Gilt 5513型號,精鋼自動上弦鏈帶腕錶,年份約1965。

The Submariner Ref. 5513 was launched in 1962 and in production for more than 27 years, making it the longest-produced of all Submariner models. During its long production run, Ref. 5513 applied two different types of dial. The earlier versions have the so-called "gilt dial" as opposed to matte dials found in later versions. The gilt dials had a deep glossy finish with the text and outer hash marks on these dials are gold in colour.

In 1967, Rolex switched Ref. 5513 to matte black dial with white texts. As a result, The Ref. 5513 only had a gilt dial for the first four years of its life. It goes without saying that the gilt dial versions are considered rare and has become highly desirable. There are a few dial iteration in gilt dial 5513. The present watch can be identified by the open chapter ring which was produced only between 1964 and 1966. The hash marks are not attached to a full circular ring on the outer edge of the dial. Moreover, it possesses another detail that is of interest to collectors. The "meters first" depth rating, which is also indicative of an early production run.

In addition to its rarity and importance, the watch is preserved in excellent and attractive overall condition with the lume dots having now developed a consistent creamy patina, as have the hands. It is an increasingly rare opportunity to acquire an appealing example of a world-class sports watch.
