The inspiration for Pen of the Year 1010, has been passed down through the generations of Faber-Castell families and their passion for the outdoors, nature and animal conversation. The hunting rifles and their manufacturing can be fully entwined with the design of this extraordinary pen.
The stock of guns were artistic in their right and many of the higher calibre examples had stocks that were made of Caucasian walnut wood, as it was strong and resistant to warping or splintering. The wood itself could withstand compression and flexing forces better than oak. These stocks were also embellished with fine decoration and this has been replicated on the barrel of the pen.
The case hardening embellishment to the guns provide notable customization to the elite owners and was often referred to as a secret art.
