Footnotes

勞力士,「Explorer」1016型號,精鋼自動上弦鏈帶腕錶,年份約1965。附原廠錶盒及吊牌。

The Ref. 1016 appeared in Rolex catalogue from 1962 until 1989, becoming the longest running model in the Explorer family. During its long years of production, two type of dial were introduced. The so-called "gilt dial" was applied first, and was replaced by matte dial in the latter half of the 1960s. Amongst those fitted with gilt dials, there were dials with a chapter ring and without. The watch offered here is an example of the first generation of the non-chapter-ring gilt dial. It can be distinguished by the "Swiss T25" at 6 o'clock. It features the texts low beneath the minute hash marks whereas the later iterations have the "Swiss T25" written higher within the minute hashes.

In addition to its representativeness, the watch's charisma is further enriched by the colour of its dial, which has aged to a brownish patina. These so-called tropical dials are in a very high demand among collectors.
