Rolex's Explorer model was originally designed for adventurers in the 1950s. And then in 1971, Rolex unveiled the Explorer II as the larger sibling with a 24-hour hand to the original Explorer I wristwatch. The present watch is a Ref. 16550 Explorer II which debuted in 1985. This reference was only in production for a little more than four years. Amongst those were produced, pieces fitted with white dials are especially desirable to collectors. Due to the paint used, the white dials often turned into a pleasant creamy colour as the present watch.
Furthermore, this watch features a double signed dial. During 1970s and 1980s, the Rolex had its products retailed by the legendary New York-based retailer Tiffany & Co, and some of them had the jeweller's name stamped on the dial, as seen on this watch.
