Head of Knightsbridge Silver Department
These are the arms of Edward MALONE (1704-1774) of Baronstown, Co. Westmeath, Ireland an MP in the Irish Parliament and a Judge of the Court of Common Pleas in Ireland. He was the second son of Richard MALONE (1674-1744) Esq. of Ballinshown, Co. Westmeath by Marcella MOLADY daughter Redmond MOLADY. In 1736 at Lea St Margaret, Kent he married Catherine COLLIER (1718-1774) daughter and heiress of Benjamin COLLIER of Darlaston, Staffordshire by Catherine POWELL and niece of Robert KNIGHT (1702-1772), 1st Earl Catherlough. The assay date of 1737 is confirmed by the presence of the COLLIER arms in pretence on the shield. They had together a number of children, most notably two sons who both died unmarried: Richard MALONE (1738-1816) who was in 1785 created Baron Sunderlin of Lake Sunderlin and later Baron Sunderlin of Baronston, both in the Peerage of Ireland; Edmund MALONE (1741-1812), Shakespearean scholar.
