Head of Knightsbridge Silver Department
This is the armorial achievement of the Earls of Annesley in the Irish Peerage and the assay date of 1814 indicates this was engraved for Richard ANNESLEY (1745-1824), 2nd Earl Annesley. He succeeded to the Earldom by special remainder and as the 2nd Viscount Glerawly, which was created for his father, after the death of his childless older brother Frances ANNESLEY (1740-1802), the 1st Earl Annesley. He was an Anglo-Irish politician, educated at Trinity College Dublin and an MP in the Irish Parliament representing Coleraine (1776-83), St Clanice (1783-90), Newtownards (1790-8), Blessington (1798-1800) and Clogher and Midleton (1800-1) and would have been styled the Hon. Richard ANNESLEY in the period (1758-1802).
Richard ANNESLEY was the second son of Sir William ANNESLEY (1710-1770), 1st Viscount Glerawly by Lady Anne Power BERRESFORD (1718-1770) daughter of Marcus BERRESFORD (1694-1773), 1st Earl of Tyrone. In 1771 he married Anne LAMBERT (1752-1822) daughter of Richard LAMBERT (1728-1783) of Dunleddy, Dundonald Down, Ulster by Alice VAUGHAN (1710-1791).
