A George III Irish silver travelling / campaign pot

William Bond, Dublin 1792
Straight sided cylindrical form, pull-off cover engraved with coat of arms and motto arms of Robert MONCKTON-ARUNDELL (1752-1810), 4th Viscount Galway, hinged cover to the lip, the side socket with a screw fitting ivory ring handle, height 9.5cm, weight excluding handle 7.2oz.

These are the arms of Robert MONCKTON-ARUNDELL (1752-1810), 4th Viscount Galway of the Irish Peerage. He was the second son of William MONCKTON-ARUNDELL (1725-1772), 2nd Viscount and Elizabeth daughter of Joseph da COSTA VILLA REAL. He served as the MP for Pontefract (1780-3,1796-1802), York (1783-90) and as a member of the Privy Council. He succeeded as 4th Viscount Galway on the death of his unmarried elder brother Henry William MONCKTON-ARUNDELL (1749-1774), the 3rd Viscount. Robert MONCKTON-ARUNDELL married twice: Firstly, in 1779 Elizabeth MATHEW (died 1801) of Felix Hall, Essex. Secondly, in 1803 Margaret Bridget MILNES (died 1835), widow of P A Hay DRUMMOND, the heiress of Pemberton MILNES of Bawtry Hall, Yorkshire. He had issue five son and four daughters by his first marriage.
Robert MONCKTON-ARUNDELL was succeeded by his son William George MONCKTON-ARUNDELL (1782-1834) 5th Viscount.
