Footnotes

A scarce account of Napoleon and Marie Louise's elaborate marriage festivities, which took place over a period of 8 days in Vienna in March 1810. In fact Marie Louise was married to Napoleon by proxy, at the Augustinian Church, Napoleon being represented by Archduke Charles, the bride's uncle.
