Two 'Blason' from the retour des cendres or return of the mortal remains of Napoleon I. from the island of St Helena to the Hotel des Invalides in 1840

In brown velvet embroidered with a coat of arms of filigree cantinelle threads, sequins and tinsel, the centre with the Imperial eagle, the Legion d'Honneur in silver threads below, surmounted by a gold-threaded crown and pair of crossed imperial sceptres, all on ermine and within shield-shaped frames inscribed BLASON AYANT ORNE LE CATAFALQUE LORS DU RETOUR DES CENDRES DE NAPOLEON, the embroidery 65cm by 58cm,

These blazons decorated Napoleon's catafalque during the Return of his Mortal Remains (Retour des cendres) from St. Helena in 1840 and paraded through the streets of Paris to Les Invalides, before veterans of the Grandes Armee Imperiales, where they lie in state today.
