The present lot was most likely painted on St. Helena between 1826 and 1827. Charles Montrion was a surveyor in the employ of the Survey Department of India, based in Calcutta; he is known to have also worked surveying the southern coast of India, and is listed as a passenger aboard the Hon. Company Ship 'Repulse', which sailed from England in January 1826, arriving in India in 1827. The ship would have called at St. Helena on both outward and return journeys.
Please note this Lot has been incorrectly marked with a star symbol on the printed catalogue, therefore VAT on imported items at a preferential rate of 5% on Hammer Price does not apply.
