Footnotes

Provenance:
Anon. sale, Sotheby's New York, 26th October 2012, lot 298

The service 'iconographique français' was painted with portraits of notable French personalities, mainly after engravings. The portrait of Poussin in the present lot is after his self-portrait of 1650, now in the Musée du Louvre, Paris. Although it was started in 1816, the service was only delivered to the Château de Trianon in 1824 for Charles X. See Camille Leprince, Napoléon Ier & la Manufacture de Sèvres (2016), no. 199.
