Paris Silver Guarantee Marks For 1794-97 And Later, Maker's Mark Of Pierre-Nicolas Sommé
With curved fullered blade (some scattered old pitting) double-edged towards the point, the forte lightly etched along both sides with foliage, a sun-in-splendour, a martial trophy and a panel of cabalistic symbols, the decorating retaining traces of gilding, hilt comprising ovoidal langets, rear quillon with lobed terminal, faceted baluster knuckle-guard with central oval and linked to the pommel by a scroll at the top, pommel with fluted cap and rounded tang button, and rounded ebony grip chequered over each side, in original wood-lined black leather scabbard (some old loss of finish) with linear engraved silver locket, chape and suspension mount, and two silver rings for suspension
