A French Napoleonic Artillery Officer's Sabre
Early 19th Century

With curved fullered blade double-edged towards the point, the forte etched and gilt against a blued ground over a third of its length on both sides with a differing martial trophy between foliage, regulation brass hilt cast and chased with laurel foliage and comprising ovoidal langets each with crossed cannons against oak leaves, lobed rear quillon, two side-bars swept-up to join the knuckle-guard, petalled pommel with back-piece extending down the back of the grip, and leather-covered grip bound with twisted copper wire, in its steel scabbard (some old pitting) with two brass suspension mounts cast and chased en suite with the hilt, and each carrying a ring for suspension
