A rare Nachet et Fils brass binocular compound microscope, French, circa 1860,

signed NACHET ET FILS a Paris 16 Rue Serpente, with lead-filled base, plano/concave reflector, mechanical circular stage, adjustment to the eyepieces via a Hooke joint and pair of knurled knobs, focusing by rack and pinion and lever and wheel, together with two eyepieces, objective, bench condenser and live box,
the microscope 17in (43cm) high

This type of binocular microscope gives a true stereoscopic image as the beam from the object is split by a symmetrical prism into two beams each of which travel to the eyepiece by a further prism.
