ATTRIBUTED TO BUNGO TOMOYUKI (ACTIVE 1356-1367)

A Bungo tachi
Nanbokucho period (1333-1392), 14th century
Sugata (configuration): honzukuri, iorimune, o-kissaki, koshizori with a thick kasane
Kitae (forging pattern): running itame hada mixed with mokume hada in jinie with chikei
Hamon (tempering pattern): shallow notare with gunome and choji midare based in nie with hotsure, yo, and sunagashi
Boshi (tip): hakikake
Horimono (carving): suken on the omote side, bonji on the ura side and bo-hi on both sides
Nakago (tang): o-suriage with kiri file marks and three holes, one plugged
Habaki (collar): one-piece, copper
Nagasa (length from tip to beginning of tang): 28 1/4in (71.8cm)
Motohaba (width at start of tempered edge): 1 1/8in (2.5cm)
Sakihaba (width before tip): 3/4in (1.9cm)
In a shirasaya (wood storage scabbard) with attribution to Bungo Tomoyuki, written by Tanobe Michihiro, dated autumn 1989

With kantei certificate no. T.140046 issued by the Nihon Token Hozon Kai (Society for the Preservation of the Japanese Sword) attributing this blade to Bizen Hidemitsu, dated February 20, 2014
