Shichibei Sukesada (1577-1674)

A Sue-Bizen wakizashi
Edo period (1615-1868), dated 1660
The broad sword of honzukuri, iorimune configuration with an extended kissaki, thick kasane and shallow toriizori, the forging pattern flowing ko-itame hada based in jinie and finished with a choji gunome midare tempered edge with prominent nie, ashi, yo, sunagashi and utsuri, and a ko-maru boshi, the ubu tang with one hole and indistinct file marks, signed Bizen kuni no ju Osafune Shichibei no jo Sukesada tsukuru and dated Manji sannen nigatsu kichijitsu (an auspicious day in the second month of 1660), 19in (48.2cm) long, with a one-piece gilt-copper habaki, in a wood shirasaya storage scabbard

With Tokubetsu Kicho Token (Especially Precious Sword) certificate no. 230631 issued by the Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai (Society for the Preservation of the Japan Art Sword), dated December 12, 1971
