BIZEN NORIMITSU VII, (ACTIVE 1504-1520)

A Bizen tanto in mounts with Ishiguro-school fittings
Muromachi period (1333-1573), circa 1510
Of hirazukuri, iorimune configuration with a chu-gissaki point and slightly koshizori curvature, forged in tightly packed itame hada with a suguha tempered edge mixed with gunome and with nie and ashi, ending in a midare komi boshi, oth sides carved with bo-hi, the o-suriage tang with kiri file marks, one hole and signed on the omote side Bishu Osafune no ju Norimitsu saku and on the ura side Izumi no kami Kanesada [] kore, 12 1/2in (31.7cm) long, with a one-piece gold-foil habaki
The 19th-century koshira-e comprising red and black-lacquer mottled saya fitted with shakudo ishime-ji kojiri with a mouse eating chestnuts in iro-e takazogan, signed Ichiryusai Masamitsu tsukuru, the shakudo nakanko-ji kozuka decorated with two prancing shishi lions, signed Sekijoken Mitsuharu saku, the tsuka wrapped in white silk and fitted with shakudo and gilt fuchi-gashira with cranes and pines, signed Hidemitsu and with a kao, and gold and shakudo menuki of pairs of shishi lions, the tsuba with a raised rim with peonies in blossom
