Hamano Naohide (circa 1775-1800)

A set of fittings for a daisho (pair of long and short swords)
Edo period (1615-1868), late 18th century
Comprising a large and a small tsuba, two fuchi, and four menuki, the tsuba of shakudo nanako decorated with rocks, shishi, and bamboo in high-relief inlay of shakudo and gold; the fuchi of copper with shakudo nanako each with a gold-relief shishi on one side; the menuki of sold gold; variously signed Hamano, Naohide, or Hamano Naohide, with kao (cursive monograms)
With two wood tomobako storage boxes and Tokubetsu Hozon Tosogu (Sword Fitting Especially Worthy of Preservation) certificate no. 2005848 dated August 27 2019, issued by the Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai (Society for the Preservation of the Japanese Art Sword)
The larger tsuba 2 7/8in (7.2cm) high
