A GOLD-LACQUER DO (CUIRASS)

Edo period (1615-1868), 18th century
The two-plate hinged cuirass built up on the surface in lacquer to resemble an okegawa tatehagi do (cuirass with vertical plates) with a slightly raised medial ridge, the vertical seams decorated with silver cherry-floret bosses, the muna-ita and waki-ita applied with stenciled leather, laced in green; with an armor stand and one armor storage box decorated with the crest of the Tokugawa family
