A Fine russet-iron uchidashi (repoussé) armor

The do (cuirass) by Katsumasa
Edo period (1615-1868), 18th century
The armor laced in light green, purple, and orange, comprising a 28-plate russet-iron suji kabuto, the rear edges of each plate exposed and the visible rivets with heads filed flush to the surface, the front and rear plates adorned with three gilt-metal shinodare meeting on the crown in a multi-stage gilt and shakudo tehen kanamono, the mabizashi finished with a gilt fukurin, the helmet fitted with a four-lame solid-plate shikoro laced in sugake style, the fukugaeshi trimmed in doeskin, the helmet further adorned with a yak-hair fringe and a gilt-copper maedate formed as an open fan between kuwagata; the menpo with a hinged bulbous nose plate and a prominent chin, fitted with a four-lame yodarekake; the yukinoshita do decorated on the front with a bold design of a dragon in crashing waves hammered up in relief, the eyes highlighted in gold, signed on the interior Soshu Odawara no ju Katsumasa (Made by Katsumasa of Odawara, Sagami Province), fitted with eight sections of four-lame solid-plate kusazuri; the chu-sode above tsutsu-gote with chain mail uppers; the haidate constructed with small rectangular overlapping plates arranged in horizontal rows; tsutsu-suneate and two-layer lacquered leather shoes; two storage boxes; no armor stand
