A suit of armor with a russet-iron cuirass

Edo period (1615-1868), 18th/19th century
Laced in blue, comprising a russet-lacquer 32-plate suji kabuto fitted with a five-lame solid-plate shikoro, the fukigaeshi decorated with heraldic crests in gold lacquer and with a lacquered-wood maedate formed as a dragon; the hanbo fitted with a five-lame yodarekake; the cuirass constructed of iron plates assembled horizontally in typical yokohagi style and fitted with seven sections of five-lame kusazuri, the lowest lame finished in textured lacquer; the kote of chain mail and russet-iron plates, hinged at the top of the sleeve with each plate decorated in Kaga style with plum blossoms, pine needles or vines in iron; with kawara haidate and shino suneate; with an armor stand and one armor storage box
