Suishinshi Masahide (1750-1825)

A Suishinshi katana
Edo period (1615-1868), dated 1813
Sugata (configuration): honzukuri, iorimune, chu-gissaki, shallow toriizori
Kitae (forging pattern): tightly packed ko-itame in jinie with chikei
Hamon (tempering pattern): narrow notare in near mirror image on both sides, with large nie and yakidashi
Nakago (tang): ubu with one hole, kesho file marks, signed Suishinshi Masahide, with the smith's kao and dated Bunka junen nigatsu no hi (A day in the second month of 1813)
Habaki (collar): one-piece, gilt-copper
Nagasa (length from tip to beginning of tang): 24 1/4in (61.6cm)
Motohaba (width at start of tempered edge): 1 1/4in (3.1cm)
Sakihaba (width before tip): 7/8in (2.2cm)
In a shirasaya (wood storage scabbard)

With Tokubetsu Hozon Token (Sword Especially Worthy of Preservation) certificate no. 1004891 issued by the Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai (Society for the Preservation of the Japanese Art Sword), dated February 4, 2016
