Okimasa (active 1661-1663)

A Kotetsu school katana
Edo period (1615-1868), 17th century
Of honzukuri, iorimune configuration with an extended kissaki and shallow toriizori curvature, forged in ko-itame hada with a gunome midare mixed with a choji midare tempered edge ending in an o-maru boshi and a moist nioiguchi with visible nie, ashi, yo, and sunagashi, the tang slightly machi-okuri with kiri file marks, one hole and signed Nagasone Okimasa, 28 1/4in (71.7cm) long, with a one-piece gold-foil habaki
The 19th-century koshira-e comprising ribbed saya decorated with scrolling vines in black, red, and gold lacquer against an olive-green ground, with shakudo koiguchi and kojiri decorated with leaves in kebori, the tsuka wrapped in purple thread and fitted with Hamano-school shakudo fuchi-gashira decorated with warriors and a Nio guardian in iro-e takazogan, signed Hamano Naoyuki, and a large gold and shakudo menuki of a shishi, the iron mokko gata tsuba decorated with flowering vines in brass inlay
